Szabadság a hegyen

Short Documentary Film and Documentary Series | 52 min

The film is about the “mountain match-watching” habits that developed in central Romania. After the Ceaușescu dictatorship’s only television station, Romanian TV, which served exclusively for propaganda and personality cult purposes, stopped broadcasting major sporting events (European Championship, World Cup, etc.) in the 1980s, residents of the country’s interior regions were forced to resort to an alternative solution: they retreated to the mountains near their settlements to follow prestigious sporting events using improvised antennas capable of receiving TV broadcasts from neighboring Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Bulgaria.
