István Örkény was born on Damjanich Street in the 7th district. Mrs. Zsuzsa Roszmanné, the main character of the film, lived opposite him. Although they did not live in Damjanich at the same time, Örkény was already living elsewhere when Mrs. Roszmanné moved here, they were neighbors in the events and twists of the Hungarian 20th century. Mrs. Roszmanné only experienced it, and Örkény also wrote about it. I used a few quotes from her one-minute stories to help outline the “Damjanich-streetness” they shared.
