A film crew arrives in a remote village to organize a community-building art workshop for the local youth. The director and his team quickly gain the trust of the residents. As they get closer to the villagers, they uncover the oppressive conditions dominating the community. All signs point to the mayor, who not only governs the village but also runs the cucumber farm that provides the primary livelihood for most of the population. When the filmmakers learn that the mayor is abusing his power, the director decides to create an exposé documentary about him. However, this well-intentioned mission has serious consequences. The highly publicized film drives a wedge between the innocent villagers and endangers everyone.
Martin Boross’s feature debut is a critical exploration of an oppressive microcosm, the responsibility of artists, and the unintended fallout of activism gone awry.
