Mesterjátszma

feature film | 90 min

Master Game, loosely inspired by Stefan Zweig’s The Royal Game, follows Márta (Sára Varga-Járó) and István (Gergely Váradi) as they attempt to flee Hungary on the last refugee train in November 1956. Alongside the young couple, the Church’s priceless relics are also being transported toward the western border and freedom. Meanwhile, B (Károly Hajduk), a Catholic priest, is tortured by the regime in an attempt to extract the relics’ location. The characters’ fates intertwine aboard the train during a high-stakes chess match, where not only the fate of the treasures but also the lives of the lovers hang in the balance.
