The modern history of relationships and emancipation takes place in the Swiss Alps at the end of the 19th century. Elsie, a musically talented maid, is forced into marriage with Jakob, a young servant. Elsie dreams of a career as a musician, while Jakob fantasizes about owning his own horse.
