A KEGYETLEN – Magda Marinko rémtörténete

THE CRUEL – The Horror Story of Magda Marinko – True-crime documentary series

A gripping docuseries that reopens one of Central Europe’s most shocking crime cases – the story of Magda Marinko, the cold-blooded killer who terrorized both Hungary and Serbia in the mid-1990s. Three decades ago, her name was familiar to everyone – and yet, the full story has never been told on film until now.
The three-part docuseries, The Cruel, explores the unsolved threads of the case, the tangled webs of the Balkan War, and the psychological breakdown of a man who rose from the French Foreign Legion to serial killer – and now sits in a maximum-security prison cell for 31 years.
Using exclusive interviews, archival footage and cutting-edge AI-based visual reconstructions, the series recreates the murder scenes and circumstances, the cross-border investigations and the world of Hungary and Yugoslavia in the 1990s – where politics, war and crime were almost imperceptibly intertwined. Viewers will meet the investigators working on the case, journalists, surviving witnesses and key figures who knew Magda Marinkó personally. The pieces of the puzzle will slowly reveal a chilling picture of fragile guilt, stubborn denial and lingering fear. What drives a man to commit serial murder – and what happens when the past simply refuses to be forgotten?
