In 1956, the world watched Hungary with amazement. The small country in the heart of Central and Eastern Europe stood up to Soviet oppression with death-defying courage. The Western powers, with their own interests in mind, supported our fight for freedom verbally, but did not provide any practical assistance. Those fleeing the revolution took the news of Hungarian courage to all corners of the world. However, due to the complex world political games, the stand of this brave, proud people could not bring about the desired change.
