I was about eight years old when I last saw my sister. She was 18. She was standing in the front door crying. All I could see was her feet, which were covered in bags instead of socks. I asked her why she wasn’t wearing socks. She said her shoes were wet and she didn’t have money to buy new ones. Then she left. We never saw her again. Then 27 years later I went looking for her.
