Január 2.
feature film | 88 min
Január 2. tells the story of a separation, specifically focusing on the day of Klára and Áron’s move as they go through their divorce. The plot is seen through the perspective of Ági, a friend of Klára who helps with the move. Ági arranges for a car and arrives at the house early in the morning, ready for the long day ahead. It’s winter—January—and the emotional weight of the task is heavy.
The film follows the packing process, which lasts all day. Over the course of the day, seven trips are made between the old apartment and the new flat. Although they take the same route each time, each trip is different, reflecting the emotional and psychological weight of the transition. The repetitive yet subtly shifting nature of the journey mirrors the personal changes the characters are going through.
This film, created with a €200,000 grant from the Venice Biennale College, took eight months to produce and captures a deeply introspective and quietly dramatic moment in the characters’ lives. Through Ági’s perspective, the audience witnesses not only the logistical aspects of moving but also the emotional undercurrents that accompany the end of a relationship and the start of something new.
